Getting Ready – Shipping

The Dollar to Euro conversion seems to be working in my favor right now. That’s the good news. Getting a loom to Atlanta from Norway is a little bit trickier than ordering something to be delivered online. Digital Weaving Norway introduced me to a broker that also provides transport. Here is a good video from the US Government that outlines the importing process – short, sweet and helpful.

A broker manages the customs process, acts on your behalf to deal with inspections, identifies the appropriate costs and probably much more but I am early in this process and will add more as I learn more.

My loom will be coming by air. My broker will also bring my loom, which weighs 450 kilos, into my house – something I really need. It comes in multiple boxes on a pallet. We can manage to put the loom together (I hope) once all of those boxes are inside.

The shipping time is somewhere under a week but I am not sure how long the customs process will be once it gets here. Fortunately this is happening in early December instead of late December.

Julenisse will be bringing me a loom for Christmas.
