Getting Ready – Warping Tools

I love tools and gadgets – tinkering of any kind to find a better way. To be honest, part of the fun of getting the TC2 is in figuring out how to work in new ways. I love a good DIY.

I love sectional warping. The TC2 is usually warped with a warp chain made on a warping board or a warping reel/drum/frame. It’s hard for me to image 2000 ends in linen on a warping board. I, however, routinely use my sectional back beam on both of my Louet floor looms with a Sawyer Bee warping wheel. I will be working on bringing that same sectional approach to my new TC2.

Right now I am thinking that I will create a frame to hold the warp beam while I beam on the threads in sections. My Louet looms have metal U-shaped pieces that plug into pre-drilled holes to configure the sections in 1 inch increments – depending on the capacity of the Warping Square – longer warps mean fewer threads. Ideally I could outfit the TC2 in the same way – sharing equipment between looms is always good.

Vibeke has shared a couple of pictures of sectional warping from other weavers. I think AVL has swappable warp beams in their line up so I will probably looking there for ideas as well. I will be digging into how others have done it in the coming weeks but if I have to beam on from a warping reel or warping board for the first few times, so be it.
