Seeking the Sun

“Seeking the Sun” was awarded First Place in the Handweavers Guild of America Convergence 2024 Yardage Exhibit Competition.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Seeking the Sun depicts the optimism of the field of flowers on a cloudy day, each bloom tilted to the sky in search of the sun’s rays. In a corner of the field, clouds part and faith is rewarded.

Really, can there be too many sunflowers on this earth? They spend their life seeking the sun, adapting their growth patterns to track the sun’s movement, tiling their faces to accept the sun’s warmth just to return a riotous display that brings happiness to the world during their lives and food, energy and renewed life with their passing.
